Hatchet 3 (2013) review (Decker Shado video)

Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third horror film in the Hatchet Series. It follows the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.

Its utilization of special effects is the primary feature of the film. In contrast to many contemporary horror films which rely heavily on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly practical makeup effect and sets--resulting in some truly horrific moments throughout the film.

Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast, and he's an intimidating villain. The dialogue feels like a 1980s slasher movie. It's funny and hilarious. There are also some hilarious moments that stand out in all the gut-wrenching scenes.

Unfortunately, due to the small budget (1 million dollars), many of the locations are duplicates from earlier films. The boat house in Hatchet (click now to read blogs) 2 was only used once and the remainder of the footage seems like it's been duplicated from previous films. Hatchet or Hatchet2 may feel the film is familiar.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous entries in this series--it provided lots of bloody thrills as well as entertaining performances from its cast members.
